Additional information: With the Western Cape in South Africa being one of the 8 biospheres of the world it is natural that Cape Town should showcase The Cape Orchid Society’s 50th Anniversary Expo and Lecture series. From 12 to 16 September 2007 the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) will come alive with “An Orchid Safari – A window on conservation of African orchids”. This four-day Expo will feature not only spectacular displays of orchids and exotic plants but will also host a three and a half day Lecture series, set to attract both local and international delegates. The event will also host the Orchid Specialist Group AGM (OSG). As the oldest Orchid Society in South Africa the COS are presenting this event for both specialists and hobbyists alike. Under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, the event has invited guest speakers from all over the world. Botanists and orchid specialists from Kew Gardens and the Royal Horticultural Society in the UK, guest experts from Japan, Australia and the USA will offer their expertise during the lecture series. Convened by Michael Tibbs, President of the Cape Orchid Society and the SA Orchid Council, this will be the biggest orchid convention ever to be held on African soil. Besides the magnificent floral displays the Expo will feature orchids in the kitchen, art and photographic exhibitions, floral art, cake decorating, craft displays, on site workshops and demonstrations, sales of plants and accessories.
